Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson maintained his belief that the Premier League race is far from over, despite seeing his side take an eight point lead.
United have given themselves daylight from second placed Liverpool after earning a hard-fought 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford this afternoon.
Liverpool can cut the lead back to five points if they beat Manchester City tomorrow and Ferguson also warned his players that the games will get even harder as the season comes to nearing the end. The United boss feels teams battling to save themselves from relegation, like Blackburn, will fight harder than ever before.
"That is a great lesson today. It tells you exactly what the league is like. I have said here all along there is absolutely no way that you can forecast we are going to win the league," Ferguson told Setanta Sport.
"When you get difficult games like this. You think about Blackburn they are down the bottom of the league. What do you think they are going to do?
"They are going to fight for their lives and if you take the bottom -eleven they all fight for their lives and Sunderland going to Arsenal, what do they do? They dig in hoping to get the point and that point may give them safety.
"It is a difficult league so we are not talking that we are going to win the league," added the United manager.
United were slightly fortunate to come away with all three points today as Blackburn had a very good penalty shout turned down. Rafael Da Silva looked to bring down Morten Gamst Pedersen in the area, but the penalty wasn't given.
Ferguson dismissed Blackburn's claims and felt Rafael had made no contact and that Pedersen should have been booked for diving.
