Paul Casey will head into the final round of the BMW PGA Championships with a three-stroke lead after a third round five-under-par 67.
The Englishman is on 13-under-par and is ahead of Dane Soren Kjeldsen, who carded a round of 68. But the star of the round was Northern Ireland teenager Rory McIlroy as he hit a round of seven-under-par 65.
McIlroy started the day six shots behind Casey, but the 20-year-old shot up the leaderboard with five birdies on the back nine to end the day on nine-under-par and is well-placed to challenge for the title tomorrow.
Casey started his round well with four birdies in the first 10 holes and the 31-year-old could have had an even better round had he been able to hole two three foot birdie putts in the last two holes.
Nonetheless, Casey was still pleased with his day and was aiming to claim the victory which could see him reach number three in the world rankings.
"I am hitting the golf ball where I want to," said Casey. "It's nice that all the hard work I have put in this year with my coach is starting to pay off.
"And if I could win and move up to third in the world rankings that would be great. It's one thing I have been focusing on a lot this year - trying to accumulate as many ranking points as possible - and with 64 of them available this week it's a big prize."
Colin Montgomerie was going well and was tied for second place at one point, but bogeys on holes 13, 15 and 16 saw the Scot fall back to five-under-par.
