A swashbuckling century from Brad Hodge guided Lancashire to a three-wicket victory over arch rivals Yorkshire in the Friends Provident Trophy.

The Australian made an unbeaten 141, which included 17 boundaries and three sixes, as Lancashire passed their target of 250 with 26 balls to spare.

Andrew Flintoff made 26 before being dismissed by rising star Adil Rashid while opener Mal Loye hit 55.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Yorkshire made 250-8 thanks to an unbeaten 135 from veteran Anthony McGrath.

England hopefuls Sajid Mahmood (3-47) and James Anderson (2-68) boosted their chances of playing in the second Test against the West Indies after impressive displays with the ball.

Despite losing Martin Chilton for a duck, Lancashire recovered with a stand of 131 between Loye and Hodge.

Flintoff hit one six before skying a delivery to Jason Gillespie off Rashid before Hodge guided the hosts to victory.

Elsewhere, Essex thrashed Middlesex by nine wickets at Chelmsford thanks to centuries from Mark Pettini and Varun Chopra.

The game was marred by Sri Lanka seamer Chaminder Vaas being taken to hospital with a neck injury after crashing into the boundary boards.

The hosts' decision to field proved a correct one as Richard Pybus' side made 277-7 from their 50 overs with Ireland World Cup hero Eoin Morgan hitting a century.

Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria was the pick of Essex's bowlers with 4-49.

In reply, Pettini made an unbeaten 103 while Chopra, the captain of England's under-19 side, hit 102.

England all-rounder Ravi Bopara guided Essex to victory with an unbeaten 56 off 42 balls.

Reigning champions Sussex were beaten by Shane Warne's Hampshire by six wickets at The Rose Bowl.

The Australian spinner took 3-33 to skittle out the visitors for just 201, with Hampshire passing their target with 11 balls to spare.

Gloucestershire beat rivals Somerset at Taunton by 58 runs thanks to 89 from Kadeer Ali.

Needing 260 to win, Somerset were all out for 201 with Marcus Trescothick dismissed for just 11.

Four wickets apiece from Simon Cook and Ryan McLaren saw Kent hammer Glamorgan by nine wickets at Canterbury.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Glamorgan were undone by Cook and McLaren and were skittled out for just 85 from 31.5 overs.

Former England wicket-keeper Geraint Jones (44) and South Africa star Andrew Hall (40) saw the hosts pass their paltry target for the loss of one wicket.

At Northampton, Durham claimed a thrilling victory with the last ball to beat Northamptonshire by four wickets.

Needing 252 to win, the visitors scraped through after a century from Philip Mustard (108).

A half-century from Chris Read helped Nottinghamshire beat Scotland by 77 runs at The Citylets Grange.

The former England wicket-keeper made 58 off 43 balls to help Notts to 293-6 from their 50 overs.

Scotland were dismissed for 216 in 50 overs with Graeme Swann taking 3-31 for the visitors.

Five wickets from Dale Steyn guided Warwickshire to a 59-run win over Leicestershire at Edgbaston.

After the hosts set 265 to win, the South Africa paceman finished with 5-29 to help skittle out the Foxes for 206.

At New Road, an unbeaten 65 from veteran Graeme Hick guided Worcestershire to a seven-wicket victory over Derbyshire.
