The Los Angeles sheriff's department is to investigate claims that Paris Hilton received special treatment while in prison.
Sheriff's deputies have claimed, through their union the Association of Deputy Sheriffs, that Hilton received various privileges while in an LA detention facility.
The claims include that she was given a mobile phone rather than have to queue for the communal phone with other inmates and that she was clothed in a new prison uniform rather than a recycled one.
Steve Whitmore, spokesman for sheriff's department, said: "We're going to investigate it and get to the bottom of it and find out exactly what happened."
The 26-year-old millionaire heiress served 23 days of a 45-day sentence for violating her probation on a driving ban.
A media frenzy began after just three days of her sentence when it was announced she was being released back to her home to serve the rest of her time with an electronic tag.
However, after being put in front of a judge the day after her premature release she was ordered to go back to jail.
