Chelseas Andriy Shevchenko could be set for a sensational return to Ukraine after his former club Dynamo Kiev revealed today that they are interested in taking the striker on loan.
Shevchenko joined the Blues for £30 million from AC Milan last year but had a difficult first season in English football, scoring only four league goals.
Now Kiev president Igor Surkis is looking to end Shevchenko's unsuccessful stay in London and bring him back to the club where he made his name.
"I have asked Shevchenko to ask his board to let him come here on loan," said Surkis.
"I am ready to take Shevchenko. He does not have a small salary but I am ready to pay that.
"If we qualify for the Uefa Champions League group stage we'll have only 24 hours to do all the paperwork."
Surkis admitted his club don't have the finances to buy Shevchenko, but said they want to take the player on loan.
"I'm ready to pay his salary instead of the Chelsea board but I'm not ready to reimburse £22.5 million to [Chelsea owner] Roman Abramovich," added Surkis.
"I don't know what's going on at Chelsea but I'm ready to take Shevchenko on loan."
Shevchenko spent five successful seasons at Kiev at the start of his career, where he won five league titles and scored 60 goals in 117 appearances.
