Amir Khan's world title fight against Andreas Kotelnik has been rescheduled for July 18th after the Ukrainian came down with a tooth infection.
The fight for Kotelnik's WBA light-welterweight belt was supposed to take place on June 27th at the O2 Arena. But now the bout will have to take place at the MEN Arena in Manchester as the O2 Arena is not free for the new date.
There were reports that the world title fight could be scrapped and Khan would face a different opponent, but the British boxer admitted he was delighted to still have a crack at Kotelnik.
"I'm delighted that the fight is still on, and when 18 July comes I will never be more ready for him although, the postponement is a pain," said Khan.
"These things happen so I have to be professional and stay focused. However, when I'm crowned world champion it will make up for it.
"Freddie Roach (Khan's coach) is adjusting my training accordingly so that I'm ready for the new date and I'm at my peak both physically and mentally."
The change of venue might work in Khan's favour as it will bring back good memories for the 22-year-old. The MEN Arena was the scene of Khan's most famous victory when he dismantled ring legend Marco Antonio Barrera.
