Robbie Keane ended his Liverpool goal drought in the Premier League as he scored twice in his side's 3-0 win over West Brom this evening.
The Republic of Ireland international had gone 11 league games without scoring, but he was at his clinical best today scoring both goals with excellent finishes. He took his first goal by neatly lifting the ball over Scott Carson and rounded the keeper to score his second. Alvaro Arbeloa added a late third.
With Manchester United losing at Arsenal earlier in the day, Liverpool had the chance to extend their lead over the champions at the top of the table to eight points and that is exactly what they did with a solid display.
Keane should have given Liverpool an early lead when he was put through by Javier Mascherano, but the striker was unable to take the chance.
The recalled Yossi Benayoun came very close to opening the scoring as he saw his goal-bound shot first hit Carsson and then come off Jonas Olsson's arm.
It was only a matter of time before Liverpool took the lead and thankfully for all Liverpool fans it came via Keane. The 28-year-old has had a difficult start to his career at Anfield, but showed today why Rafael Benitez had paid so much money for him.
The former Tottenham man scored his first after being put through on goal by a Steven Gerrard pass before he calmly lifted the ball over the onrushing Carson. Keane had to wait only nine minutes to grab his second goal. This time he got on to the end of a Fabio Aurelio pass and expertly rounded Carson before firing into an empty net.
Keane was given a well-deserved break towards the end of the second-half when he was replaced by Fernando Torres, who made a welcome return from injury. But it the Spanish international was unable to grab a goal, but his international compatriot Arbeloa scored late on with a curling strike.
