Rapper Kanye West has confirmed he has returned to the recording studio to work on his fifth album.
The Stronger star, whose last album 808s and Heartbreak was released in 2008, wrote on his blog that he plans for his new release to be an example of "truth and sincerity in a world of processed information".
"I'm so happy to be back in the studio making new music," he wrote on Kanyeuniversecity.com. "I will bring you the best I have to offer with the same dedication that [LA Lakers basketball player] Kobe has on the court."
West continued: "It's funny how so many rappers get worse as their careers stretch out, but true poets get better. We will follow in the footsteps of Maya Angelou, Gill Scott-Heron and Nina Simone. Their work improved with time. They documented what was happening in culture. That is our responsibility as the modern day artists and poets."
The 32-year-old made the news in 2009 after invading the stage during country singer Taylor Swift's acceptance of a MTV Video Music Award, leading US president Barack Obama to label the rap star a "jackass" in an off-the-record remark.
West apologised for the September incident on his blog and on The Jay Leno Show and has pledged to release an authentic album in 2010.
"Let us look past headlines and deal with just a bit of reality in this new decade," he added on his blog.
"We have our own outlets now. We don't have to believe everything anymore. Now I'll figure out a way to make that rhyme."
