Brazilian football icon Kaka has signed for Real Madrid in a deal thought to be worth £56 million, it has been confirmed.
The 27-year-old has signed a six-year deal with the Spanish giants in what is a world record transfer fee in pounds sterling, beating the £46.5 million Real paid for Zinedine Zidane eight years ago.
That transfer came at the height of the Galactico era, and the signing of Kaka by returning president Florentino Perez is set to herald a summer of high-profile arrivals at the Bernabeu.
Kaka was due to announce the move in his native Brazil, where he is currently on international duty, but AC Milan confirmed the deal on their official website.
The Serie A club thanked Kaka, signed from Sao Paulo in 2003, and admitted they would struggle to fill the "void" left by his departure.
"AC Milan thanked the man and the great champion Kaka for his decisive contribution to the many victories achieved in the six years of his commitment," a statement said.
A short statement on the Real Madrid website added: "The dream is now a reality: Kaka, one of the best players on the planet, is now a Madridista."
Earlier this year, Kaka is believed to have turned down a record transfer to Manchester City worth around £102 million and a £500,000-a-week salary for the player.
