Italian giants Juventus had completed the signing of Brazilian playmaker Diego from Uefa Cup finalists Werder Bremen.
The 24-year-old had in the past been linked with both Real Madrid and Chelsea, but he has opted to sign a five-year deal at Juventus, who have paid £21 million to acquire his services.
Diego will join Juve at the end of the current season and has the massive task of trying to replace the legendary Pavel Nedved, who will be hanging up his boots. But Diego is confident he would be a success at the Stadio Olimpico.
"I am enthusiastic and delighted to be a part of such a prestigious club," Diego told the club's official website."I have dreamt of this moment since I was a child.
"After an experience in Portugal (with Porto) and in the Bundesliga, I will be able to prove my worth at a high level with difficult competition.
"It is the right time for me to take this important step and I am convinced that at Juventus I will be able to achieve great results."
Diego started his career at Santos where he formed a dynamic partnership with Manchester City star Robinho. The Brazilian international moved to Porto in 2004 as a replacement for Deco, but failed to settle in Portugal and moved to Bremen two years later.
The midfielder became a key player for Bremen and played a starring role in leading them to the final of the Uefa Cup and also the German Cup, which will be his last game for the club.
