Tottenham manager Martin Jol has this evening warned his bosses that the club will go backwards if they decide to sack him.
Jol has been under-pressure this season as Tottenham have only managed to win five points from seven games in the Premier League. Sevilla boss claimed he had been offered Jol's job and Jose Mourinho has also been linked with Tottenham. But Jol believes he is still the best man for the job.
"The fans know how difficult it is if they change management again, they know you could easily go back for years," said Jol.
"I hope people are realistic - you can get anyone in the world to come, but to do better you must finish fourth. The continuity is important - we were fifth two years in-a-row, I don't think anybody else could do any better.
"The continuity of the club is important and we did that here with my staff over the last couple of years.
"We won a lot of points, had nine wins in Europe and got back into Europe via the league, which probably didn't happen for 25 years or so," said Jol.
Jol explained that he appreciated the support the Tottenham fans have given him, but admitted he could be in a better position.
He said: "The speculation isn't a nice position to be in, but I can't do anything about it."
Tottenham and Jol will be hoping to get their League campaign back on track with a win against Aston Villa at White Hart Lane on Monday.
