Ireland hooker Jerry Flannery will play no further part in the Six Nations after his six-week ban for tripping was upheld by the competition's appeals committee.
An appeal and counter-appeal from the Six Nations disciplinary officer were dismissed at a hearing in west London presided over by Jeff Blackett, Douglas Hunter and Marco Cordelli.
Flannery, 31, was originally cited for kicking out at France winger Alexis Palisson's legs during the 33-10 loss in Paris on February 13th.
"The appeal committee upheld the original disciplinary committee's finding that the act of foul play was in the mid-range of offending defined by IRB Regulation 17 and that the level of net mitigation applied was within the correct margin of appreciation," a statement on the Irish Rugby Football Union's website said.
The Munster hooker will now not be available for selection until March 29th.
He was replaced by Rory Best against England at Twickenham, a game Declan Kidney's team won 20-16.
