Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas could face disciplinary action from the Football Association (FA) after his criticism of referrer Howard Webb.
Jenas was angered by Webb's decision to award Manchester United a controversial penalty in Tottenham's 5-2 defeat at Old Trafford on Saturday.
United were given a penalty when keeper Heurelho Gomes brought down Michael Carrick in the penalty area, but replays confirmed that the Spurs keeper had actually made contact with the ball before bringing Carrick down.
"One thing which struck me about it was that he (Webb) didn't even think," said Jenas."It was like he'd already made his mind up when he came out for the second half that he was going to give something.
"I think it was a case of a referee crumbling under the pressure at Old Trafford really. The atmosphere, the occasion, the importance of the match, a lot of factors take their toll when making decisions."
The FA have written to Jenas and asked him to explain his comments. Jenas wasn't the only person disappointed by referee Webb's performance. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp described the penalty as a "terrible" decision and felt the referee had a poor game in general.
