Bolton defender Radhi Jaidi is set to move to Birmingham City for £2 million.
The Tunisian international, who appeared at this summer's World Cup, will sign a three-year-deal with the Championship side, subject to a work permit being granted.
Blues manager Steve Bruce had said at the weekend he had eight deals on the table and he will be hoping Jaidi is the first of those to come to fruition.
One of the other potential deals could be for Fulham striker Brian McBride, although the Cottagers issued a statement today saying he was going nowhere.
Bruce has also confirmed the St Andrews club are trying to resign Chris Sutton, who spent six months at the club last season.
"We have been in touch with Chris Sutton over the summer and we will see what happens," Bruce told the club's official website.
"We have also made an enquiry for McBride but at the moment that is all it is. We have got to be patient."
Meanwhile, Wigan have signed Emmerson Boyce from Crystal Palace for £1.75 million.
The 26-year-old had been linked with a move to another London club, with former Eagles' manager Iain Dowie at Charlton and Fulham both expressing interest in the player.
However, the former Luton Town defender has instead decided to move north, signing a four-year deal with the Latics.
He is expected to be unveiled at a press conference tomorrow.
