Iyaz has debuted at number one in the first Official Singles Chart of 2010 with Replay.
Paolo Nutini's Sunny Side Up remained at number one for the second week in the Official Albums Chart, having first entered the charts at number one in June 2009.
Replay sold a huge 106,000 copies to make it to number one, the Official Charts Company said, being "one of the defining tracks behind the fast-rising Island Pop sound; a genre which blends rap, reggae and pop". The single was number two on Billboard's Hot 100 Chart in the US.
Number two came from Sidney Samson feat. US rappers Wizard Sleeve, which had 97,000 sales with Riverside (Let's Go); a figure which would have given the twenty-seven-year-old Dutch House DJ and producer the number one slot in almost any other week in the last year.
Martin Talbot, managing director, Official Charts Company said: "You might expect a sales lull at this time of year, but Iyaz and Sidney Sampson clearly defy expectations. To have two singles selling such significant numbers in the first chart of the year is fantastic."
The top two singles come in a bumper week for the singles market overall, with well over three million singles sold last week, a total which would have made it one of the top ten biggest weeks for singles in 2009 - which was itself the biggest year for singles sales in the history of the UK music business.
