Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says they will continue the pursuit of peaceful nuclear technology.
His speech on the issue comes after the country's 30-day deadline by the UN Security Council to freeze its nuclear work expired.
"The Islamic republic will not negotiate with anyone on its absolute right to use peaceful nuclear technology. This is our red line, and we will never give it up," he said.
"Iran's decision to master nuclear technology and the production of nuclear fuel is irreversible."
Yesterday, a new report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that Iran had accelerated its nuclear enrichment programme.
"I think it's clear from the scope and extent of the Iranian nuclear programme that they're trying to achieve mastery over the entire nuclear fuel cycle," said John Bolton, US ambassador to the UN.
"Their contention that this for purely peaceful civil nuclear purposes is simply not borne out by the facts."
President Bush's administration is expected to use the report to increase pressure on the US' fellow security council members to pass a resolution legally obliging Iran to comply with its wishes.
