A British couple have been seriously injured in a machete attack on the Caribbean island of Tobago, the Foreign Office has confirmed.
Peter Green, 65, and his wife Miriam, 56, were attacked on the island during the weekend.
The couple, originally from Reading, have been airlifted to a regional medical centre where they are continuing to receive medical attention.
A spokeswoman from the Foreign Office told inthenews.co.uk: "We can confirm two British nationals have been hospitalised after the attack in Tobago and we are providing consular assistance."
Local police are continuing to investigate the attack.
The couple are said to have been living in the town of Bacolet along Tobago's southern coast on and off for ten years.
