Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer has died at the age of 58 after being found unconscious in his hotel room in Jamaica.

The former England international and South Africa national team coach was taken to Kingston University Hospital at 10:45 local time (15:45 GMT).

Woolmer, whose Pakistan side were knocked out of the cricket World Cup yesterday, was found on the floor of his room in the Pegasus hotel with signs of vomiting.

Pakistan's media manager Pervez Mir told journalists at the hospital: "Bob Woolmer has passed away.

"Doctors have pronounced Bob Woolmer dead. Bob has passed away and it is very shocking news to all of the team and the team management.

"Bob's family and wife were informed by the management about his condition when he was brought to hospital," Mir added.

Speaking after Saturday's shock three-wicket defeat to Ireland at Sabina Park, Woolmer himself admitted that he was struggling with the lifestyle of an international cricket coach.

"Doing it internationally, it takes a toll on you - the endless travelling and the non-stop living out of hotels," he said.

"As for my future as a coach, this is what I do best, and I am not going to, therefore, throw away coaching."

Woolmer had been in charge of Pakistan for three years, having represented England between 1975 and 1981.

It is unclear whether the south Asian nation's final group game with Zimbabwe on Wednesday will go ahead as scheduled.
