A Yemeni detainee at Guantanamo Bay has committed suicide after an apparent long-standing hunger strike, US officials report.
Muhammad Ahmed Abdullah Saleh, 31, was imprisoned at the Cuban military base in 2002 after being accused of being a Taliban fighter.
The Pentagon released a statement on Tuesday claiming his death was an "apparent suicide" after guards found the detainee "unresponsive and not breathing".
The death is the first at Guantanamo Bay since Barack Obama became US president and he ordered its closure.
There have been five other deaths at the camp since it opened seven years ago, including four suicides.
