About 12 Iraqis have died in Baghdad following a series of bomb attacks during a children's game of football.
The interior ministry has indicated that two explosive devices were detonated while children and adults played an impromptu game of football in a ruinous western Shia area of the capital.
Thirteen other people were injured in the attacks, police said. The ages of those people killed fell between nine and 20 years old.
The bomb attacks in west Baghdad were among a series to hit the troubled country today alone, with 14 people dying after a suicide car bomber exploded in central Baghdad and at least 23 soldiers losing their lives after their military transport was blown up by militants north of the capital.
Sectarian conflicts in Iraq have continued unabated in recent months despite repeated attempts by its prime minister, Nouri al-Maliki, to introduce new measures to shore up the country's internal security.
Commentators have suggested that the threat of full-blown civil war is still a very realistic prospect.
