India have asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) to drop Darrell Hair from the list of umpires to officiate at next month's Champions Trophy.
Hair controversially abandoned a Test match between England and Pakistan earlier this summer after penalising the sub-continent side for ball-tampering.
In the furore that followed the ICC made public a letter from the Australian offering his resignation in exchange for $500,000.
The incident could well be dragged back into the spotlight this week when Hair returns to the Brit Oval to give evidence in the disciplinary hearings against Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq.
"There was a lot of controversy and there are certain issues like crowd behaviour etc. We wanted to avoid unnecessary incidents," said Indian cricket board secretary Niranjan Shah after submitting a letter to ICC.
Whether or not the hosts' wishes are granted remains to be seen however.
"It is up to the ICC to appoint the best umpires and officials which we will do in due course," said a spokesman for the game's governing body.
The Champions Trophy is to be held between October 7th and November 5th in grounds across India.
