Manager Mark Hughes has defiantly claimed his Manchester City side are a match for anyone in the top four after victory over Chelsea.

Hughes went on to praise the workrate of his side after watching his team secure a thrilling 2-1 win over the Premier League leaders at Eastlands.

City fell behind early in the first half to an Emmanuel Adebayor own goal before turning the game on its head through an Adebayor atonement and a Carlos Tevez free kick.

Hughes then had to endure a late penalty from Frank Lampard, which was saved by the once again impressive Shay Given.

It left Hughes in buoyant mood as he spoke to the waiting media: "It was a fantastic effort by everyone and I thought we were good value for the win.

"We will take great belief from this, we have taken on all top four teams given a decent account of ourselves. We beat Arsenal and Chelsea at home, drew away to Liverpool and were very unlucky to not get something at Old Trafford so we can take great confidence."

Speaking about the Lampard missed penalty, Hughes claimed he had complete faith in Given before it was taken.

"We're just trying to find out when is the last time he missed a penalty," he added.

"We think it's three years but to be fair he hasn't come against Given on all those occasions."
