New Zealand winger Doug Howlett has apologised for his behaviour outside Heathrow Airport's Hilton Hotel on Tuesday which resulted in him being arrested.
Howlett, who damaged two cars, admitted that drink played a role in his actions. He will have to return to the UK later this month as part of his bail conditions.
In a statement released through the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU), Howlett said: "Firstly I'd like to say I'm sorry for what has happened.
"I am embarrassed that the events of one evening have led to me being in this situation. It was a little bit of tomfoolery that has caused me to be here.
"I apologise to people back home; family and friends, the New Zealand public, the fans and my team-mates. I'm working with the police at the moment to contact owners [of the damaged cars] and fix what I have done wrong.
"Again, this is an embarrassing time and I do take sole responsibility. There was drink involved, and it's not an excuse, but I do take responsibility for what I've done and there was no intent to cause anybody or anything any harm whatsoever," added the All Blacks star.
Howlett is New Zealand's all-time record try-scorer with 49 tries, but he played no part in his team's shock World Cup quarter-final loss to France last Saturday.
The 29-year old is scheduled to join Munster on a two-and-a-half-year contact on January 1st and the move would all but end his All Blacks career.
