Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard reacted to Everton's 2-0 Europa League defeat to Benfica by claiming that the Portuguese side are worthy of a place in the Champions League.
Howard was man of the match for Everton but conceded that his side never came close to matching the quality of the opposition's play at Goodison.
He said: "With all due respect to everyone else in the competition, Benfica are a Champions League team. They've bought like Champions League teams do and their quality is fantastic, they're certainly setting the bar."
Howard can draw consolation that Everton at least avoided a repeat of the 5-0 drubbing they received when they faced Benfica a fortnight ago.
"We don't have the luxury of feeling sorry for ourselves," the American added as he looked forward to his side's next Europa League outing against AEK Athens.
