Germany's Martin Kaymer is in pole-position to win the BMW International Open in Munich after ending the third round on 18-under-par.

The 23-year-old, who was named last year's European Tour Rookie of the Year, carded a bogey-free round of 67 to go six shots clear of South African Charl Schwartzel heading into the final round.

Kaymer fired a superb round of 63 yesterday to build a five shot lead at the end of the second round and though his round today didn't have the same fireworks, he still managed to putt five birdies, which included a 25-footer on the final hole.

"I didn't make so many putts today, but I still played well and I’m looking forward to tomorrow," said Kaymer.

"I can't let myself think about what it will all mean, though, I must just go out, hope I have a big crowd supporting me, and enjoy it."

English trio Ross Fisher, Paul Casey and Ben Barham are in third position and are joined by France's Thomas Levet, but they still have a mount to climb if they want to win the tournament as they are seven shots behind Kaymer on 11-under-par.

Colin Montgomerie carded an impressive round of five-under-par 67, but the Scotsman was still not happy with his performance admitting that "in the 90s, five under would have become a seven-under 65, so it's disappointing".
