Former Switzerland coach Roy Hodgson has been named as Fulham's new manager.
The Englishman takes over from Lawrie Sanchez, who was sacked earlier this month, and will officially begin his role on December 30th.
Hodgson's only previous Premier League managerial experience came during a mixed period in charge of Blackburn between June 1997 and November 1998.
But his time in charge of the Swiss national team who he guided to the 1994 World Cup and 1996 European Championships and latterly Finland has convinced Fulham to appoint him as their third manager in the space of a year.
Cottagers chairman Mohamed al-Fayed said: "I believe that Roy has immense experience in all areas of football and can drive this club forward for the long term.
"My commitment to this club has never dwindled and I am more than ever determined that we have the right man to turn round our current predicament and build for a successful future."
Hodgson has been in charge of the Finnish national team during their unsuccessful attempt to reach Euro 2008, having made his name as Inter Milan boss in the 1990s.
He has also managed Swiss sides Copenhagen and Grasshoppers and Italian outfit Udinese during a colourful coaching career which has spanned 32 years.
"I am delighted to have been offered this opportunity with Fulham," Hodgson said.
"After long talks with the chairman and the board I am convinced that we can take the club to a new level.
"I am determined that we will overcome the current position, which I understand will be a challenge, but one that I will relish."
Hodgson will watch tomorrow's away game against Birmingham City from the stands and will take the reins in time for the New Year's Day home local derby with Chelsea.
Fulham are currently in the relegation zone after winning just two games all season under Sanchez.
