Tim Henman is through to the second round of the Toronto Masters after cruising past Wimbledon runner-up Jonas Bjorkman 6-2 6-3.

However, on a mixed day for Britain, Greg Rusedski crashed out of the tournament after losing 6-4 6-2 to Russia's Mikhail Youzhny in his first match since returning from injury.

Henman's win over Bjorkman now means he has the possibility of playing Andy Murray in the next round, if the Scottish teenager can overcome 11th seed David Ferrer of Spain in his first round match.

The pair almost met in the semi-finals of the Legg Mason Classic in Washington at the weekend but were denied when Henman lost to Dmitry Tursunov in the last eight.

The 31-year-old enjoyed a good day though in his opening match in Canada, going 4-0 up in the first set before holding twice to take the advantage.

He also suffered few problems in the second to cruise to a simple victory.

However, for Rusedski, he now faces life outside the top 100 after his defeat to the world number 45.

It was the Canadian-born player's first match since he lost in the first round of Wimbledon to another Russian, Marat Safin, but after losing the first set after a single break in the ninth game, he lost his way early on in the second and never recovered.

Elsewhere, third seed David Nalbandian was surprisingly knocked out by Italian qualifier Davide Sanguinetti.

The Argentine was crushed, winning just three games in the whole match as Sanguinetti sailed through 6-1 6-2.
