Health experts are trying to identify the source of an outbreak of salmonella that has struck the UK and Ireland in recent months.
About 80 cases of illness caused by salmonella have been reported, affecting all ages but predominantly young adults.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said it is "working hard" to find the source of the outbreak.
There are "simple measures" people can take to reduce the risk of food poisoning, the agency advised.
At home, people are advised to wash hands thoroughly before handling food and to always cook food thoroughly.
When eating out the FSA said people should not be afraid of asking for food to be reheated if it does not appear to be piping hot.
"Vulnerable groups including the elderly, the very young, pregnant women or anyone who is unwell should take particular care to follow this advice," the FSA said.
"Finally, if you believe any food you have eaten has made you ill, you should seek medical advice."
