New Zealand prop Carl Hayman has arrived at Newcastle Falcons insisting that he wants to win silverware with the club.

Hayman signed a three-year deal with the Falcons earlier this year but has been recuperating after the recent World Cup in France.

He joined the squad for his first training session today and could be considered for selection for the side's EDF Energy Cup match against Wasps on Saturday.

On his arrival Hayman said: "Every player's aim is to win things, and I'm no different.

"I wouldn't have come here if I didn't believe it was achievable, and everything I've seen since I arrived at the Falcons has backed up my feeling that this is a team which can win things."

Newcastle director of rugby John Fletcher will have England pair Jonny Wilkinson and Toby Flood available again for the first time sine the World Cup.

He said: "Jonny was very close for last weekend's Guinness Premiership game at Wasps after his ankle injury, and Toby has fully recovered from his own ankle problem."

But Fletcher says Hayman might have to wait to make his debut for the Falcons despite his enthusiasm to help his new team-mates.

Fletcher said: "He [Hayman] seems keen to get involved early, he's definitely up for it and I'm sure all Falcons fans are looking forward to seeing him in Newcastle colours as soon as possible."

Newcastle will hope to reverse their 35-12 defeat to Wasps in the league last week as they seek to gain a place in the quarter-finals of the cup competition. They currently lead group A on seven points.
