A stunning second-half performance saw Harlequins comeback from 14-0 down to win 44-14 against Castleford in the Carnegie Challenge Cup.

Castleford, who are rooted to the bottom of Super League, looked to be heading for a surprising win as they took a big lead through tries from Michael Shenton and Adam Fletcher, and three goals.

But the home side came out in the second-half like a team possessed and notched seven tries and eight successful kicks at goal to break the hearts of Castleford fans.

Castleford took an early lead as Shenton got onto the end of a grubber kick and managed to muscle though Rikki Sheriffe to score the try. Craig Huby added the two points.

They increased their lead by a further two points as Henry Paul gave away a penalty and Huby was successful with the kick. The Tigers then scored their second try when Fletcher dived into the corner to score. Two further penalties from replacement Kirk Dixon saw Castleford head into half-time 14-0 up.

Harlequins though were level within 13 minutes of the second-half. First a superb inside-ball from Paul allowed Michael Worrincy to crossover. A clever break from Chad Randall from dummy-half saw him score a try and with Rob Purdham kicking both conversion and adding a penalty, the scores were level.

Former Castleford hero Danny Orr made the game safe for Quins, as he first kicked a cross-field ball which Tony Clubb claimed to score. Orr then burst through the Castleford defence and scored a try himself.

Castleford heads dropped after that and Quins scored further tries through David Howell, Gareth Haggerty and Danny Ward.
