England anchorman Owen Hargreaves looks set to finally get his wish and make his dream move to Manchester United - but not until the summer.
The 25-year-old's club Bayern Munich have repeatedly knocked back interest from the Premiership leaders, but reports say that United have now met the Germans' asking price of £20 million.
Hargreaves - one of the few England players to emerge from the 2006 World Cup with any credit - broke his leg on the eve of the Bundesliga season and has only just resumed training.
But despite the long-term injury Alex Ferguson was still thought to be keen on bringing the Canadian-born midfielder to Old Trafford during the current transfer window.
Bayern president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told German daily Bild today that this prospect was "out of the question".
However he added: "We will see this summer how things work out."
The Red Devils see Hargreaves as the perfect addition to their Premiership pace-setting squad, despite the form of central midfielder Paul Scholes and £18.6 million summer signing Michael Carrick.
Hargreaves himself has been consistently linked with a move to England since breaking into the Bayern first-team seven years ago.
