Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
The 27-year-old has undergone surgery in America in a bid to resolve the tendinitis problems he has suffered from for almost two years.
The operation took place at the clinic of surgeon Dr. Richard Steadman in Colorado, and the England international will have a further operation in two weeks time.
"Owen has had surgery on his right knee and it went well," an official Manchester United statement said.
"He will be undergoing an operation on his left knee in a few weeks and will be out for the rest of the season."
Hargreaves has made just 37 appearances for Manchester United since his £20.3 million transfer from Bayern Munich in July 2007, and just three this season following the recurrence of his knee problem during pre-season.
