Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves is hoping to return to the first team for the Super Cup on Friday against Zenit St Petersburg.
Hargreaves has been struck down with tendinitis again after missing a large part of last season with the same problem. He has missed the start of this season after undergoing a course of injections to try and solve the problem.
The 27-year-old felt "Monaco (the Super Cup final) is a possibility" but admitted England's World Cup qualifiers in September against Andorra and Croatia may be a more likely time for his comeback.
But after 16 months of suffering with tendonitis, Hargreaves is cautious of not rushing back too quickly.
"I have felt it, the tendonitis, for the past 16 months, but hopefully I will be back playing in a week or two," said the England star.
"Physically I demand a lot of myself. I wish it wasn't the case but I just have to cope with it. Obviously I am trying to get better - I do a bit more every day.
"Last season I was fit towards the end. That is the reason the boss brought me here. Obviously there is a big season ahead for Manchester United and England and I want to be fit and available."
Hargreaves moved to Manchester United for £17 million from Bayern Munich last summer. Despite a slow start for his new club, the midfielder came into his own towards the end of the season and played a key part in the team winning the Premier League and Champions League.
