Denmark's Soren Hansen cruised to victory by four strokes to win the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Cologne.

Hansen wins his first European Tour event in five years after a final round of five-under-par 67 to finish on 17-under.

Englishman Philip Archer went round in 68 to finish joint second with Scotland's Alastair Forsyth (70) on 13-under.

Wales' Bradley Dredge was tied for third with Sweden's Tomas Bjorn on 12-under, one shot ahead of Lee Westwood.

Hansen and Bjorn shared the lead at the start of the day but the Swede's hopes of victory were destroyed after double-bogeying the sixth hole.

Dane Hansen, who also led at the halfway stage, fired two eagles with a chip-in at the 13th and a ten-foot putt on the par-five 15th.

Despite bogeying the 17th, Hansen strolled to victory to pocket a winners' cheque for $440,000.

Hansen said he played his best-ever golf this week.

"I had a really good feeling coming into this event and I'm very proud to have beaten 77 of the best players in Europe," Hansen said.

"I wouldn't say it's been a monkey on my back but I have been close a few times since 2002.

"In the past I have looked too much over my shoulder at what other people were doing but today I stuck with what I had and struck some good shots."
