Wasps' director of rugby Tony Hanks paid tribute to Lachlan Mitchell after the Australian risked serious injury to help his side see out their 20-15 win over Northampton.
Mitchell was taken to hospital after colliding with Chris Ashton as the Saints winger raced away for what would have been a match-winning score.
"There's not too many braver than Lachie. That tackle that he made at the end was a try-saving tackle," Hanks said.
"It was a big win for us but obviously our main concern is making sure he's ok."
However, Hanks did have better news on Danny Cipriani who'd limped off with calf and ankle trouble and was replaced by Mitchell: "The (medical) guys didn't seem too concerned with Danny."
Hanks was full of praise for his side's defensive effort as they climbed into the top three.
"I thought the composure we showed was great, we didn't give away any penalties.
"We defended well, we trusted each other and it was a credit to the guys who had come off the bench."
Skipper Phil Vickery, who acknowledged the game was one the club may well have lost last season, hailed his team's performance.
"It was a fantastic effort from the boys and there were a lot of positives to come out of today," he said.
"I just challenge myself and the rest of the guys to replicate that."
