West Ham have turned down an improved offer, thought to be in the region of £9 million, from Manchester City for striker Craig Bellamy.
City had a joint bid for Bellamy and Hammers team-mate Scott Parker rejected at the start of the January transfer window and they have now gone back for Bellamy.
West Ham chief executive Scott Duxbury said earlier this month that the club would listen to offers for their players, but don't need to sell their best players despite being affected by the global economic crisis.
City manager Mark Hughes has a long association with Bellamy and is a huge admirer of the player. Hughes managed to get the best out of the striker when he managed him for both Wales and Blackburn Rovers. But it remains uncertain if he will be able to bring the player to Eastlands.
Despite being the richest club in the world, City have had a torrid time trying to bring in new players during the transfer window. They have been linked with a whole host of players but have so far been only successful in bringing Wayne Bridge to the club.
They are still thought to be in the hunt for Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz, after having already had two bids turned down for the player.
