West Ham have reiterated their determination to hang on to playmaker Carlos Tevez by refusing to allow the Argentine attacker to go ahead with a Manchester United medical.
The Old Trafford club have been determinedly pursuing the 23-year-old but the Hammers hierarchy are insistent that they, rather than the player's representative Kia Joorabchian, will determine his future.
"Meetings have taken place between the two clubs but no agreement has been reached in relation to Carlos Tevez," said a West Ham spokesman.
Tevez had flown into Manchester in the wake of his country's Copa America defeat in the hope of finally bringing the complex deal to a conclusion.
But West Ham's permission to proceed, which is required before the player can officially meet with Manchester United officials, was not forthcoming.
The saga revolves a key part of the east London club's defence against claims they should have been docked points due to irregularities in the deal that brought Tevez to London.
The former Corinthians star was only allowed to keep playing in their successful fight against relegation because West Ham officials claimed to now exclusively control the player's registration after tearing up Joorabchian's right to guide his client's future.
After a request from the player to have his own contract at Upton Park destroyed was declined, Manchester United are left with the potentially expensive prospect of making an acceptable offer to Hammers owner Eggert Magnusson.
