Controversial umpire Darrell Hair has withdrawn his offer to the International Cricket Council (ICC) of resigning in exchange for $500,000.
The Australian revoked his offer as the ICC revealed the astonishing email Hair sent to chief executive Malcolm Speed in the wake of the ball tampering row that forced the fourth Test between England and Pakistan to be abandoned.
Hair released a statement that reads: "There is a now a communication from myself to the ICC in the public domain."
"This correspondence was composed at a very difficult time and was revoked by myself two days after a period of serious consideration. There was no malicious intent behind this communication with the ICC."
"I am anxious that the Code of Conduct hearing takes place as soon as possible so that these matters can be resolved and allow me to move on with my umpiring."
In the email, which was forwarded to Doug Cowie, the ICC's umpire manager and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Hair asked for: "a one-off payment to compensate for the loss of future earnings and retainer payments over the next four years" if he were to relinquish his position from August 31st.
Speed replied to Hair's email by saying: "I have been given copies of letters that you have forwarded to Doug Cowie today concerning the current issue."
"The matters raised by you concerning your future employment are entirely inappropriate. There is a clear process that is to be followed and it is in place."
Hair accepted the ICC's stance and replied: "Thanks Malcolm, I have revoked the email. As you say it is inappropriate and we will see how things unfold over the next few days. It would appear that life will go on regardless."
Speed has admitted that he was shocked at Hair's offer and decided to reveal the emails publicly after consulting with lawyers.
The ICC executive board will meet at its headquarters in Dubai next week to discuss the latest twist involving Hair.
