The prime minister Gordon Brown has said he will "keep going" even if the Labour party fails to win the general election or in the event of a hung parliament.
In an interview with Woman's Hour on BBC Radio 4 the Labour leader was asked whether he would resign if his party failed to win a majority, replying: "I'll keep going".
The PM added: "I owe it to people to continue and complete the work that we have started of taking this country out of the most difficult financial recession.
"To be honest, going round the country, I feel there is more to do to improve the health service, more to do to give people better opportunities, more to do for women on maternity pay and equal pay, more to do on the discriminations that still exist."
The general election is expected to take place on May 6th, with growing speculation the result could see a hung parliament. Today the Times reported that ministers had said Mr Brown would "keep hold of the helm" even if the party lose out.
