Toyota driver Timo Glock has vowed to recover from a leg injury in time to take his place in the cockpit for the Brazilian grand prix in two weeks' time.

Glock crashed into the barriers during qualifying in Japan on Saturday and suffered a cut to his leg and complained of back pain after he was taken to hospital afterwards.

However, after x-rays revealed no significant injuries Glock was upbeat about his chances of returning in time for the next round in Sao Paolo.

"Together with my physio I tried everything to be fit for the Japanese Grand Prix but in the end it was not possible for me to race," he said.

"It was a pity to miss Toyota's home race and I'm annoyed that this happened.

"I want to say thanks to my car crew because they worked all night to fix the damage and get it ready for the race. They did a great job but unfortunately I couldn't race, however I am sure I will be back in Brazil."

After Glock's crash, Toyota applied for permission for Kamui Kobayashi, who completed both Friday practice sessions, to race in the Japanese grand prix.

However, stewards turned down the request due to the regulation which requires a driver to participate in at least one practice session on the second day of the event if he is to race.

Jarno Trulli in the second - and consequently only - Toyota on the grid claimed a second successive second place for the Japanese team behind Red Bull's Sebastien Vettel.
