Glamorgan beat holders Somerset with the last ball of the match in a nail-biting Twenty20 match at Sophia Gardens.

A half-century from Richard Grant gave Robert Croft's side a good start but after losing nine wickets they scraped through, getting the four runs needed off the last three balls for victory.

Australian opener Justin Langer had earlier hit an unbeaten 76 for the Sabres in their target of 185.

Former England international Ronnie Irani guided Essex to a comfortable victory over Hampshire over Essex at Chelmsford.

Irani made 81 not out as Essex passed their target of 159 with the loss of just three wickets.

Former England wicket-keeper Chris Read guided Nottinghamshire to victory over Yorkshire with an unbeaten 48 off 28 balls.

Read put on a partnership of 95 with David Hussey (58) as Notts set a target of 196 for victory at Trent Bridge.

In reply Yorkshire managed 174 for six with former Australian international Darren Lehmann making 48.

Middlesex suffered their third straight defeat in this year's competition after losing to Kent by 17 runs at Lords.

Kent made 182 for the loss of five wickets with Darren Stevens top-scoring with 69 off just 43 balls with New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris taking three wickets.

In reply, Middlesex made 165-7 after their 20 overs with Styris again the protagonist, hitting 54 off 42 balls and Owais Shah making 33 but it was not enough to prevent another defeat.

Gloucestershire won a nail-biter against Warwickshire by three runs at Edgbaston thanks to a half-century from Matthew Hardinges.

Northamptonshire piled on the misery for Worcestershire after winning by nine wickets at New Road.

Worcestershire slumped to 86 all out and Northants patiently surpassed their total in 16 overs after an unbeaten 44 by former India captain Sourav Ganguly.

Elsewhere, Durham overcame Lancashire by four runs at the Riverside, Leicestershire comfortably beat Derbyshire by 86 runs and Sussex overcame Surrey by five wickets at Hove.
