Steven Gerrard "totally lost it" during a brawl with a man at a nightclub in Merseyside, a court has heard.
The Liverpool captain is charged with affray over the incident which saw businessman Marcus McGee, 34, suffer a series of injuries last December.
Earlier today, it was confirmed Gerrard would be standing trial alone after six of his co-defendants admitted being involved in the alleged brawl.
The 29-year-old, meanwhile, has denied the charges.
Prosecutor David Turner told a Liverpool court today how a row erupted at the Lounge Inn nightclub after Gerrard asked Mr McGee for control of the club's CD player.
Mr McGee, however, declined the request causing Gerrard to confront the 34-year-old some minutes later, Mr Turner said.
"Steven Gerrard had clearly lost his cool: he was angry with Marcus McGee," the prosecutor told the court.
Gerrard's friends then also came over and one of them pushed Mr McGee away and "could not resist following through with his right elbow into Mr McGee's face", it was claimed.
"We say at this stage Gerrard totally lost it," Mr Turner said.
"Within seconds, Steven Gerrard joined in the attack with a succession of well aimed uppercut punches delivered with the style and speed of a professional boxer rather than a professional footballer."
Mr McGee is reported to have suffered injuries to the head, including losing a tooth, in the alleged incident.
Gerrard had been out celebrating his team's 5-1 victory over Newcastle United last season on the night in question.
The trial continues.
