Liverpool will again be without star striker Fernando Torres as they look to get their Champions League bid back on track against Lyon at Anfield tonight.
Torres, who also missed the 1-0 reverse at Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday, remains out of contention for the match because of a groin strain he picked up on international duty with Spain.
However, in better news for the Reds, inspirational captain Steven Gerrard looks set to return after training with his team-mates at Melwood on Monday.
"Steven is fit. He has been training so hopefully he will be available," said Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez
"It is important as we have had some problems with injuries since the start of the season, so having Gerrard fit is a big boost for us."
Benitez added: "Torres is still not ready.
"Hopefully he will be for the weekend, but not for this game."
Liverpool's last European game saw them suffer a 2-0 defeat to Fiorentina in Italy which, coupled with a poor run of form in domestic competition, has left the Anfield faithful disgruntled and frustrated.
