The German Football Federation (DfB) has called off this Saturday's friendly against Chile as a mark of respect for former goalkeeper Robert Enke.
The 32-year-old was found dead after a train struck his car at a level crossing near the city of Hannover on Tuesday evening, in what was later revealed as a suicide.
And at a meeting in Bonn the DfB decided to postpone their exhibition game against the South Americans, due to be played in Cologne, after consultation with the players and the coaching staff.
"We could not play the game against Chile on Saturday - that was a unanimous decision and it was without an alternative," said DfB president Dr Theo Zwanziger.
"We are stunned and devastated. Our prayers go out Robert Enke's wife and his family. He was a wonderful man."
Next Wednesday's friendly against African side Ivory Coast in Gelsenkirchen will go ahead, according to a statement.
However, this weekend's cancellation means Germany now have just two scheduled matches before the squad is announced for the World Cup finals in South Africa next year.
