The UK's leading shares index the FTSE 100 ended up on Wednesday, but oil giant BP made significant falls as the cost of the US oil spill continues to rise.
By close of trade the index had added 1.15 per cent, up 57.71 points to end the day at 5,085.86.
Miners made ground today, leading the gainers. By end of trade it was Fresnillo which led, up 4.63 per cent, while Kazakhmys and Xstrata gained 4.44 per cent and 3.98 per cent respectively.
BP however, shed 4.24 per cent on Wednesday, as costs of the giant oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico continue to rise, and complaints about the firm's handling of the disaster continue to roll in.
Despite looking to face more strike action, British Airways gained 1.31 per cent.
