Britain's leading shares index the FTSE 100 made further gains in early trading on Monday following its highest closing level for 18 months last Friday.
The top 100 on the City market were up 0.13 per cent by 09:50 GMT, adding 7.39 points to 5,607.15.
Leading the gainers was Petrofac, reversing Friday's losses, which added 3.08 per cent, while Royal Bank of Scotland added 2.43 per cent.
Also among the early risers were Prudential and Legal and General, who added 1.54 per cent and 2.10 per cent in early trade. The Pru was reported today as saying it had brought forward its planned listing on the Hong Kong stock exchange, after last weeks announcement it plans to buy the Asian arm of AIG.
Dragging on the shares index was AstraZeneca, which lost 1.37 per cent, while United Utilities continued Friday's closing losses, shedding 0.45 per cent this morning.
