Andy Murray was forced to retire from his first round doubles match with brother Jamie at the Monte Carlo Masters.
The world number ten is a major doubt to play in the singles event in Monaco after suffering a back injury against Polish pair Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski.
Murray, 19, and brother Jamie lost the first set on a tie-break before he pulled out after speaking with the trainer.
Having received a first round bye due to his high ranking, Murray is scheduled to play Frenchman Marc Giquel tomorrow.
Murray said he will wait until the last minute to decide whether to play his second round match at the clay court event.
"I hit a shot and my back went into spasm," Murray said.
"It got worse and worse after every game so now I just have to see what it's like tomorrow."
Murray appeared to be struggling with his back in a gruelling first set with the Scottish duo converting a break point at the fifth attempt to take a 3-2 lead only for the Polish pair to break back immediately.
The rest of the set went with serve until Fyrstenberg and Matkowski won a nail-biting tie break before Murray decided to retire.
Murray moved to a career-best tenth in the world rankings on Monday after Germany's Tommy Haas failed to reach the semi-finals of the US Clay Court Championships in Houston.
