Alex Ferguson has revealed that he will not renew Quinton Fortune's Manchester United contract when it expires in the summer.
The South African midfielder will be free to join another club after Ferguson deemed him surplus to requirements at Old Trafford despite the dearth of talent in United's central midfield.
Fortune had played there as well as left wing and full-back but has not featured this season due to a knee injury.
The set back was one of a long line of injuries which has often derailed Fortune's career since he arrived in Manchester.
Ferguson said that he was sorry to lose the player but was sure that he would find a decent club when he becomes a free agent in the summer.
The Manchester United manager explained: "We have a lot of good young players in his position, so we are not going to be renewing his contract.
"He has been a great servant and played some terrific games for us and I think next season he will get a good club."
Fortune arrived in 1999 and has played 88 games for the club scoring 10 goals from a variety of positions.
