Duncan Fletcher has confirmed that he will try to rest Andrew Flintoff in the coming one-day internationals.
The captain was left out of the team to play the fifth match with India on Sunday but the game was cancelled due to bad weather.
Despite being 4-0 down in the series the England set up insist that they will be fighting hard in the final two games of the series.
Flintoff was brilliant in the Test series and was named man-of-the-series after superb batting and bowling displays.
But Fletcher said: "We want to rest Freddie whenever we can. We saw this as an opportunity the other day. We will manage it on a game-by-game basis. I spoke to him about it even before the one-dayers started.
"It is both mental and physical fatigue. The mental side does play a part and you have to look at both sides. Once Fred has got a ball in his hand or bat in hand he gives 100 per cent."
England still have to play in Jamshedpur on Wednesday and Indore on Saturday before returning home to England to prepare for a busy year which will include the ICC World Cup and England's attempt to retain the Ashes in Australia at the end of the year.
