England's Ross Fisher has claimed his first European Tour title with a one-stroke victory in the Dutch Open.

A birdie on the final hole secured the victory for the 26-year-old, who received sustained pressure from Holland's Joost Luitin in the closing holes.

A possible comeback appeared increasingly likely in the final stages when Luitin secured three birdies in the final five holes, while Fisher bogied successively on the 16th and 17th.

However, a birdie on the final hole secured his victory over the local favourite.

The Englishman began the final day of the KLM Open in Zandvoort tied for the lead with David Carer and Steve Alker.

However, the victory was only confirmed after an enquiry by course officials accepted that he did not infringe on rules when attempting to remove a root on the 12th.

Fisher maintained that he left the root alone upon realising that it was not a loose impediment and was in fact, connected to a bush, the Associated Press reports.

Commenting on the investigation, Fisher said: "The buggy ride to the 12th was the longest of my life and to stand there for 15 to 20 minutes looking at the footage was terrible.

"I feel very lucky and fortunate to be standing here as the winner," he added.
